Description

Monstera Peru Plant stands out with its thick, textured, dark green leaves, making it a prized aroid for plant lovers. This slow-growing climber thrives in bright, indirect light and adds a unique tropical touch to indoor spaces.

Ideal Light and Temperature

This plant prefers medium to bright indirect light. Direct sun can scorch the leaves, so keep it shielded. It thrives in temperatures between 15.5°C and 29.5°C, making it suitable for sub-tropical environments. Avoid exposing it to drafts or temperatures below 15°C.

Soil and Watering Requirements

Monstera Peru needs a well-draining, airy substrate to prevent root rot. Use a mix of coco coir, orchid bark, and perlite to ensure good drainage. Adding up to 10% worm castings enriches the soil naturally. Water the plant when the top 5 to 7 cm of soil feels dry. Be careful to avoid overwatering.

Humidity and Feeding

This plant enjoys humidity levels around 60-80%. If indoor air is dry, mist its leaves or use a pebble tray with water to increase moisture. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser or organic alternatives such as diluted seaweed solutions.

Pruning and Propagation

Prune the Monstera Peru Plant to control leggy growth and encourage bushiness. Propagate by taking stem cuttings with at least one node; root them in water or moist sphagnum moss. This method helps you multiply your collection effectively.

Common Pests and Problems

Keep an eye out for spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. Treat infestations promptly with neem oil or an approved insecticidal soap. Prevent root rot by ensuring proper watering and using a fast-draining substrate.

Water Quality

Monstera Peru tolerates slightly acidic water and can handle borehole water with a pH of 5.7. However, if your water is very hard or contains chemicals, distilled or rainwater is preferable.
