String of Spades thrives in bright, indirect sunlight, making it ideal for placement near east or west-facing windows. It prefers a well-draining cactus or succulent mix, with optional incorporation of worm castings at about 10%. This enhances soil fertility without compromising drainage. Watering should be infrequent, only when the soil is dry, to prevent root rot—a common issue with overwatering. Maintaining a temperature above 13°C (55°F) is essential, and in hot conditions, ensure proper airflow to avoid overheating and fungal problems.
Feeding and Propagation
Feeding is optional but advisable during the growing season with a diluted soluble fertiliser. Propagation is straightforward through stem cuttings, especially those with nodes, which root quickly in dry soil or water. Pest-avoidance measures include organic neem oil treatments and good airflow.
